John, It’s been another long week waiting for Democrats to come to the table to end the Schumer Shutdown, but I wanted to take a moment to update you on how we’ve been working to advance our conservative values. I have taken to the airwaves across the district to tell the truth about the shutdown. The responsibility for it lies squarely on the Democrats. The Senate has now voted fourteen times on a clean continuing resolution that would reopen government, pay federal employees, and keep food assistance flowing to vulnerable Americans. While three Senate Democrats have sided with common sense and voted in favor of the clean CR, it continues to fall short of the 60 votes needed to pass. I have been discussing the Democrats' demands to retain $1.5 trillion of wasteful spending in radio interviews from Marshall to Ada, and from Litchfield to Crookston. Republicans are standing strong to pass spending bills by regular order—in the open, for all to see, and not four congressional leaders talking behind closed doors, as the Democrats are used to doing. I think it’s important for constituents to know the truth about the Schumer Shutdown.
More than half a million federal workers have missed paychecks since this shutdown began. Congressional Democrats are deliberately using federal workers and low-income families as political leverage. Senator Chris Coons even admitted in an interview that Democrats were banking on SNAP benefits drying up to gain bargaining power. It’s disheartening and disturbing to watch Minnesota’s senators support this strategy while more than 18,000 federal workers in our state struggle to feed their families. But cracks are forming in the Democrats’ game. This week, the American Federation of Government Employees, the largest union of federal workers, called for an end to the shutdown, which their president described as “an avoidable crisis that is harming families.” As I draft this update, we haven’t been given guidance on when we may be recalled to work on appropriations bills. In the meantime, I would like to urge all of us to step up for our neighbors. I joined Rep. Pat Fallon and 20 House colleagues in calling on U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel to open an investigation into a newly declassified CIA report from 2015 that raised concerns over potentially corrupt and illegal Biden family business dealings in Ukraine. This wasn’t done alone. It required senior figures inside the Obama-Biden administration to look the other way or help cover it up. The American people deserve answers and accountability. I’m urging the Department of Justice and the FBI to open this investigation immediately. It’s time we finally get answers on the wrongdoing surrounding the Biden family and those who helped bury the truth. President Trump conducted a very important meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in which China agreed to purchase 25 million tons of soybeans annually, and 12 million tons immediately. This is a monumental win for our farmers and ranchers, who will supply the soybeans, sorghum, and other products to China specifically. The president’s trip to Asia was very successful, with anticipated investments of $2 trillion into the United States economy overall. I applaud President Trump and Department of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent for making this deal happen, as it will greatly benefit our rural communities.
