This breaks my heart.
Donald Trump and his MAGA allies in Congress forced a government shutdown and put over 40 million Americans — including seniors and kids — at risk of going hungry.
I know what that feels like. As a single mom, I’ve had to choose between paying rent and buying groceries. I’ve stared down at an empty fridge, stretched, and skipped meals. During these tough times, SNAP didn’t just make my life easier; it made it possible for me to survive, just as it has for so many New Mexicans.
Right now, we need leaders who will fight fiercely for our families. I’m proud that Governor Lujan Grisham authorized $30 million to help fill any gaps that could be left by delayed or reduced SNAP benefits, and that New Mexico’s Attorney General is taking action by suing the Trump administration to lift this cruel suspension of food assistance. Governors are the last line of defense — we need leaders who stand up and deliver for our families. As governor, I’ll bolster the New Mexico Attorney General’s office so we can hold Donald Trump accountable for trying to take away programs and services New Mexicans rely on.
But right now, we can’t afford to wait. Every day this shutdown drags on, more and more families are at risk of facing hunger. That’s why I’m asking you to sign my petition urging Congress to fully restore SNAP benefits immediately. Will you add your name?
In solidarity,
— Deb
