John,
Over 42 million Americans have now been thrown into a state of crisis, thanks to Donald Trump and spineless Republicans in Congress.
As of this morning, November 1, funds for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Women, Infants, & Children (WIC) program have run out and have not been replenished through reserve funding by the federal government.
By law, contingency reserve funding for SNAP must be available for “program operations” as “may become necessary.” Two federal judges even ruled on Friday afternoon that the Administration must provide emergency funding for SNAP.
Trump, the President of the United States, is breaking the law and purposely harming Americans to score political points during the shutdown.
For millions who are struggling, disabled, unemployed, or who work but need extra assistance, the beginning of the month is a tough time. Rent is due; grocery prices continue to soar; and with colder temperatures arriving, utility costs are rising.
It is up to all of us to come together and support our communities, especially when the people we elect to government refuse to do their jobs.
Please consider making a donation to your local food bank or drop off canned goods and non-perishable food items this weekend. You can find a food bank near you through Feeding America’s zip code lookup tool:
