Friend,
It's been over 25 years since I co-founded Common Dreams with my late wife, Lina Newhouser.
Our mission was to create a people-powered, unapologetically progressive news source to inform, inspire, and ignite change for the common good.
To maintain our independence, we rejected advertising. To ensure everyone has access to trustworthy news and information, regardless of ability to pay, we refused to put our journalism behind a paywall.
That model worked for us because of the stalwart support of our readers. Whether you donate $5, $100, or more, you are what makes Common Dreams possible.
But I need to be 100% honest with you about the future of Common Dreams, because it's simply never been more difficult to survive as an independent news outlet.
Big tech search engines and social media platforms are suppressing links to our news articles. AI-powered chatbots are stealing our work without credit. As a result, we're seeing fewer new visitors to our website, making us far more reliant on support from long-time readers.
Meanwhile, Trump has issued executive orders threatening to strip the nonprofit status of progressive groups that displease him, and we must make sure we're on a solid financial footing if and when one of Trump's goons comes knocking on our door.
So here's the bottom line: Historically, only about 1-2% of our readers ever donate. To keep Common Dreams alive and strong going forward, we need to increase that to at least 4-5%.
If you're getting this email, it means you haven't given to our Fall Campaign yet — and we're still $15,000 short of our goal.
So with time running out before tonight's midnight deadline, I'm making one last appeal: Please donate to Common Dreams and keep progressive nonprofit media alive. And as a reminder, all donations received before midnight will be matched 100%.
