A Note from Elizabeth New
This year has been nonstop in Washington state for new and higher taxes, rising costs of living and a steady push toward government-knows-best thinking. Olympia keeps playing favorites with workers’ money, deciding what people can save for and how — despite the many other needs individuals face.
Every month I hear from workers surprised by the amount of wages automatically taken from their paychecks, parents frustrated about the lack of oversight they can give their children’s health care, and reporters asking how safety nets have drifted so far from their purpose. They remind me why I do this work — and how grateful I am to the community who makes it possible.
Because of your support, Washington Policy Center can continue to stand up for free-market ideas and share the real stories lawmakers need to hear. You help us push back on bills that separate workers from their earnings, doctors from patients and parents from kids. You make it possible to promote solutions that control costs, expand opportunity and let taxpayers keep more of what they earn to strengthen their own communities.
We know that innovation and affordability thrive in Washington state when the government steps aside and entrusts people to make more decisions for themselves. Thank you for believing in Washington’s potential and for helping keep the state a place where responsibility and compassion can go hand in hand.
With gratitude,
