For those who might not know, WIC stands for Women, Infants, and Children. It’s a program that provides everything from formula to food for pregnant moms and their babies.
I used to run a WIC program in Wayne County. I’ve seen firsthand how critical this program is for families. It keeps kids fed, keeps mothers healthy, and keeps hope alive.
Last year alone, 240,000 kids in Michigan benefited from WIC.
And now, WIC funding is at risk because Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans decided to shut down our government and use food assistance programs as collateral.
That’s hundreds of thousands of working people and children losing access to the most basic nutrition programs, all because Donald Trump would rather let the government shutdown continue than address the healthcare crisis his budget is about to create.
Especially as we head into the holidays, no child in Michigan should have to wonder where their next meal will come from. Hunger shouldn’t be an issue in the richest, most powerful country in the world.
So today, I’m asking you to do something immediate and real. If you can afford it, contribute directly to Gleaners Community Food Bank, one of the most important hunger relief organizations in Michigan.
