Join me for a community food drive tomorrow

Hey John,

Our charitable food system was already stretched thin, but now, with SNAP benefits set to expire tomorrow, more than 5 million Californians will need to rely on our food banks to keep their families fed.

Because of rising costs, food banks have seen a decrease in donations in recent years. And they’re about to be hit harder than ever. For every one meal a food bank provides, SNAP provides NINE. Now, families in will be reaching out for help, and the limited resources our food banks have to offer will be stretched even further.

This is what happens when we elect politicians who are disconnected from the daily struggles of real people, working two jobs just to make ends meet, and still needing help.

This is coming at an awkward time – with today being the end of the month, you’re likely getting dozens of emails from campaigns like mine asking for donations to reach monthly fundraising goals. However, this is so important to me, I needed to get this announcement out ASAP.

We as a community can step up to make sure no one falls through the cracks. No one in our community deserves to go hungry because Washington is broken.

As part of my campaign launch this Saturday, I’m organizing a food drive for the South Chico Community Assistance Program, where I serve on the Board of Directors. Together, we can make sure Butte County families have what they need.

Here’s how you can help:

🍞 Bring food: Drop off shelf-stable, non-expired food at The Westport (603 Broadway St., Chico) between 3 and 4 PM on Saturday, November 1.

🥫 Coming to the launch? You can bring your donations with you when you check in between 4:30 and 5 PM.

💛 Not in Butte County? Please consider donating to your local food pantry. You can find one near you here.

I know times are tough, but I also know how resilient and generous our North State community is. When we come together, we take care of each other.

Thank you for stepping up and being part of this.

With gratitude,
Audrey
