Sonora Quest Collaborates With State, Health Care Leaders To Vastly Expand COVID-19 Testing Capacity In Arizona ([link removed])
Governor Doug Ducey announced this week a strategic collaboration with Sonora Quest Laboratories, the Arizona Department of Health Services and PerkinElmer, Inc. to expand testing in Arizona. Sonora Quest expects to process 35,000 diagnostic tests per day by the end of July, and up to 60,000 tests per day by the end of August.

Arizona State University will launch several testing sites that will provide free saliva diagnostic testing for COVID-19 in high-need underserved communities around the state. The Arizona Department of Health Services has committed up to $12.7 million to fund the expansion of testing sites to serve up to 100,000 Arizonans.

Governor Ducey this week announced additional actions to contain the spread of COVID-19, including the signing of an Executive Order that requires restaurants with indoor seating to operate at less than 50 percent capacity. He also announced new initiatives to boost staffing in underserved areas, get test results to Arizonans faster, and further enhance hospital staffing and capacity.

Governor Ducey this week announced $600,000 to fund the launch of Arizona Small Business Association’s Live Local program, training small businesses to find and navigate resources available during COVID-19, providing mentoring and internship programs, and more. As part of the Live Local program, small businesses will also be researched to understand best practices, growth trends and policy analyses.

Governor Ducey today announced $250,000 for Special Olympics Arizona (SOAZ), a nonprofit organization that provides services to individuals with intellectual disabilities, including physical activity and competition programs, health screenings and art programs. The $250,000 investment will help SOAZ continue to engage individuals in virtual programming during COVID-19 and ensure proper mitigation efforts when in-person activities resume.

Governor Ducey and USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue this week signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Arizona State Capitol. The agreement focuses on restoring fire-adapted ecosystems and reducing the risk of wildfire to communities; identifying, managing, and reducing threats to forest and ecosystem health; and fostering economic development strategies that keep working forests productive.
