Dear Friend,
Across the country, we’re watching democracy unravel in real time. With the Voting Rights Act on the verge of collapse and Republicans in red states moving quickly to redraw congressional maps that silence Black and working-class voters, this moment calls for courage, not complacency. |
Yet right now in Maryland, Senate President Bill Ferguson is refusing to act. While Republicans in places like Texas and North Carolina are openly rigging the next election, Ferguson has chosen to sit out the fight, rejecting efforts to redraw Maryland’s maps to ensure fair representation and protect Black political power.
This is not politics as usual. This is a national crisis. Trump and his allies are working overtime to consolidate power and roll back decades of progress. If Democrats in blue states like Maryland don’t step up, we risk losing far more than congressional seats. We risk losing democracy itself. Maryland must meet the moment. We can’t afford weak leadership or business-as-usual decision-making when the stakes are this high. We need to act boldly and decisively to defend fair maps and protect the future of representative democracy. Join us in the fight to save democracy and secure fair maps in Maryland. |
Together, we can build the pressure needed to make sure our state stands on the right side of history. In solidarity,
Larry Stafford, Jr. Executive Director, Progressive Maryland |
