Email from Rep. Hinson Friend, We are approaching an inflection point for the Democrat Party. We are now on Day 31 of the Schumer shutdown – the second longest shutdown in American history. Last week, the number two House Democrat confirmed her party is keeping the government shut down for “leverage.” They aren’t even hiding it anymore. They think hardworking Americans are pawns in their political game, and Senator Schumer, still afraid of getting a primary, continues to put up a “fight” against President Trump – no matter the pain it causes the American people. Below I dive into what’s at stake as Democrats continue to play political games, but I want you to know that I will continue fighting to reopen the government for Iowa families. My office also remains open and ready to serve. Despite the agency delays, my team is making progress on casework—from helping a constituent resolve a REAL ID delay to getting answers on new FSA points of contact for our farmers. Please don't hesitate to reach out to our team here if you need assistance. Sincerely, Democrats Put Politics Over Feeding Vulnerable Iowa Families Food assistance programs like SNAP are set to run out of funding as soon as November 1st – leaving an estimated 270,000 Iowans and over 42 million Americans – vulnerable parents, children, and seniors without the ability to buy groceries. Thankfully, Governor Reynolds is stepping up to ensure Iowans in need can access nutrition benefits. I’m so grateful for Governor Reynolds’ leadership in meeting the needs of Iowa’s most vulnerable families as Democrats continue to use essential government services like SNAP as “leverage.” This is a game to them. No one should go hungry because of the Democrats’ dysfunction — I hope they come to their senses and vote to reopen the government. Shutdown Harms Air Traffic Controllers & Our Safety Air traffic controllers and TSA agents are missing another paycheck, even as they work tirelessly to keep Americans flying safely. Many are working extra hours or second jobs just to get by, while Democrats refuse to reopen the government and pay them. Flight delays and cancellations are mounting, and holiday travel is at risk – all because of Chuck Schumer’s senseless shutdown antics. It’s past time for Democrats to vote to reopen the government. Team Hinson at Ribbon Cutting in IA-02 My team also joined community leaders and Governor Reynolds in Cedar Rapids to celebrate the opening of a new addiction treatment center. With more than 100,000 lives lost to overdoses in 2023, expanded access to treatment like this gives Iowans hope and a second chance. Facebook Instagram X Truth Stay Connected Rep.
