Letter from the Mayor

Dear Washingtonians,

Happy Halloween, DC! We're calling on everyone to work together to make today a safe and fun Halloween for our kids.

Here's how you can help:

* If you are going out tonight, consider using public transportation rather than driving. *But if you will be driving, slow down!* We know that on Halloween kids like to run around and they get excited, and so we need drivers to be extra cautious.
* If you'll be taking trick-or-treaters out this evening, make sure they stay where you can see them and that they are cautious when crossing the road.
* If you have older teenagers who are going out tonight, make sure you know what their plans are, who they will be with, where they will be, and when they are coming home.
* If you're an adult who will be out celebrating, don't drive under the influence and don't let anyone in your group drive under the influence. Use public transportation, have a designated driver, or use rideshare.

And, finally, if you're still looking for a safe and fun Halloween activity for your kids, the Department of Parks and Recreation [ [link removed] ] and the Metropolitan Police Department [ [link removed] ] are hosting many free events across all eight wards tonight and tomorrow — haunted houses, trunk or treating, a costume skate party, and more.

Let's make tonight a safe, fun, and joyful Halloween for our kids.

Sincerely,

Muriel BowserHalloween at King ES

Help make leaf collection a success this season! Check your collection section [ [link removed] ] and sign up for updates [ [link removed] ] to know when it’s time to rake out in your neighborhood. When it’s your turn, rake leaves into the tree box or to the curb in front of your home. You can use paper bags if you’d like, but remember, plastic bags can’t be used for composting.

And don’t forget: pumpkins and food scraps can be composted [ [link removed] ] at 31 food waste bins or 12 drop-off sites across DC.

*Section A: Rake out by Sunday, November 2! *
