John –
Trump’s government shutdown is spiraling into a national crisis as it passes the 4-week mark, and
millions of hardworking Americans are paying the price.
Families are missing paychecks. SNAP benefits are running out. Wildfire prevention, disaster response, and national park operations are significantly impaired and almost nonexistent.
But there’s one group that isn’t feeling the pain: Big Oil.
Even as the Trump shutdown starves public safety programs and forces families to go without food assistance, the Interior and Agriculture Departments have quietly kept their doors open for drilling, mining, and logging.
In fact, they’ve approved more than 300 new oil and gas permits since the shutdown began – all while furloughing workers who protect lives, property, and our public lands.
That’s why Jared Huffman and Rep. Yassamin Ansari are demanding answers. They’ve launched a formal inquiry into how Trump’s Cabinet is illegally funneling resources to fossil fuel corporations during a lapse in appropriations – a potential violation of federal law.
They’re right to demand accountability. The administration’s claim of a so-called “national energy emergency” is a sham excuse to keep Big Oil’s profits flowing while everyone else suffers.
This is about basic priorities. Public safety and disaster response are being treated as expendable while oil executives get red-carpet treatment. It’s outrageous, it’s immoral, and it’s exactly what Trump’s MAGA movement stands for.
Jared is doing everything he can in Congress to end this reckless shutdown and hold those responsible accountable. But he needs our support to keep up the public pressure.
Please, John, if you believe our government should work for families, not fossil fuel CEOs, add your name here and show Jared we’re with him.
Together, we can demand a government that serves the people – not the polluters.
