Why are we still spending $400 billion on an emergency Covid program?
<[link removed]>

Hello John,

β€Œ

Congressional Democrats say they won’t vote to reopen the government unless
Congress renews Joe Biden’s bumped-up Obamacare subsidy scheme.

β€Œ

First, here are the facts:

* To help Americans get through Covid, then-President Joe Biden increased the
amount of Obamacare subsidies and expanded the number of Americans eligible for
assistance.
* Biden called his bill β€œan economic bridge through the crisis,” saying it
was β€œcritical to meet the moment and tackle the urgent public health and
economic crises the Nation faces as a result of COVID-19.”
What both parties want:

β€Œ

πŸ”΅ Democrats want Congress to make these Covid-era higher subsidies permanent.

β€Œ

πŸ”΄ Republicans want to let them expire and return to the pre-Covid subsidy
levels, which were very generous.

β€Œ

To hear the Democrats tell it, a return to pre-Covid Obamacare would be a
catastrophe for the American people β€”an admission that the health insurance
scheme they’ve lauded for the past 15 years is no darn good. And it isn’t.

β€Œ

😀 But Biden’s Affordable Care Act subsidies are riddled with abuse.

β€Œ

Biden’s inflated subsidies, along with weakened income verification, have led
to skyrocketing improper enrollments driven by unscrupulous insurance brokers.

β€Œ

According to the Paragon Health Institute
<[link removed].>
,more than 6.4 million people were improperly enrolled in 2025, costing
taxpayers $27 billion.

β€Œ

One example: Back in April, a Florida insurance broker pleaded guilty to
fraudulently enrolling consumers in ACA plans to obtain millions in commissions
from insurers. He targeted some of the most vulnerable people and signed them
up for fully subsidized (i.e., free) Obamacare plans. This single fraud scheme
saw the federal government dole out $134 million in subsidies β€” which went
straight to insurance companies to pad their profits. He pocketed fat
commissions.

β€Œ

Another example: Because Obamacare subsidies are based on income, even wealthy
people are able to claim full subsidies and get free coverage. Indeed, a couple
with $1.5 million in investible assets who retired at age 46 to travel the
world bragged on Reddit that because their taxable income is so low, they are
getting the maximum ACA subsidy while β€œon a 5-month slow travel tour of the
British Isles and Ireland, a dream trip.”

β€Œ

A dream for them, a nightmare for taxpayers.

β€Œ

Here’s the bottom line: Extending these bloated subsidies would be an
Obamacare insurer handout.

β€Œ

Instead of wasting your hard-earned dollars on a plan that has never delivered
quality health care at an affordable price, we should be looking at other ways
to lower costs for everybody β€” like expanding health savings accounts and
direct primary care.

β€Œ

So don’t be fooled by the rhetoric coming from the left, and don’t let them
get away with forcing an Obamacare insurer handout.
