Hey, y’all – Team Allred here. There is a lot that goes into running a successful campaign: communications, digital fundraising, research, hiring dedicated staff – and making sure Colin is running a campaign that’s reflective of his values and the priorities of Texans. But really, it boils down to one simple – but major task: making sure Colin can win.
It’s true that sometimes, there’s no rhyme or reason to a campaign’s success. But there are factors along the way that can really move the needle toward victory, and it all starts with the candidate, their story, and their electability. Based on historical data, early polling and what we’re hearing on the ground, one thing is clear: Colin has the best chance to win this race.
Allow us to explain why.
10%
When Colin first ran for Congress in 2018, nobody gave him a shot. He was up against a 22-year GOP incumbent in Texas’ 32nd District, a Republican stronghold. Much of the area that encompassed the 32nd District hadn’t been represented by a Democrat since 1968. And election experts gave Colin a 10% chance of winning.
They told him that flipping this seat was a pipe dream.
But Colin’s whole life has been about facing a series of tough fights and figuring out how to persevere through them. From growing up the child of a single mom to fighting his way into the NFL to becoming a civil rights attorney – he’s done his best work when the odds were stacked against him. He’s not the kind of person who folds under pressure – it’s made him stronger. He knocked on almost every door in the district and talked to every voter who would lend him their time. Sure enough, his message to bring North Texas values and new leadership to Congress resonated with voters.
Want to guess what happened next?
Colin came from behind to win by more than 6%, unseating one of the most powerful Republicans in Congress and helping Democrats take back the House majority. Colin’s perseverance and people-first campaign led Democrats to one of the most shocking victories of the year.
Outperforming National Democrats
Fast forward to 2024, Colin built one of the biggest grassroots campaigns Texas has ever seen and came within striking distance of defeating Ted Cruz. Although he fell short in the end, Colin was able to outrun Vice President Kamala Harris at the top of the ticket by nearly 200,000 votes (5.5%) – a wider margin than any other Senate candidate in the country.
Here’s why that’s so significant: Ticket-splitting – voting for candidates of different parties on the same ballot – has become much less common these days because our country has become far more polarized. Most people stick to the party line, especially when voting at the Senate and presidential levels. The fact that nearly 200,000 Texans split their ticket vote for Colin speaks volumes about his ability to connect with Texans statewide.
Colin gained critical ground or won outright in several county-level precincts that voted blue in 2020 and then swung to Donald Trump in 2024. This was most notable in the Rio Grande Valley, a heavily Latino and once reliably blue region. Here, Trump saw double-digit gains – some of his best improvements in the whole country over 2020 – and Democrats lost a ton of votes. But not Colin.
Colin won all but one county in the Valley and outran the presidential ticket by 10%.
That included winning nearly 200 precincts along the border that also went for President Trump.
One last important point: Texas is big. It’s home to more than 31 million people, 18.6 million registered voters, 254 counties, and 20 different media markets. Running, let alone winning, a Senate campaign in a state as big, as populous, and as diverse as Texas is expensive. Very expensive. And Colin, who doesn’t accept any donations from corporate PACs, was proud to rely on grassroots supporters to fuel his efforts.
Against all odds – as is a familiar pattern with Colin – he was able to notch some key successes in a very challenging political environment:
He built up his name recognition (a notoriously expensive and difficult thing to do in a state as large as Texas), and now, according to the University of Houston-Texas Southern University’s annual Texas Trends Survey, 95% of likely Democratic voters know his name.
He maintained the strongest approval ratings of any politician – Democrat or Republican – in all of Texas.
Colin’s command as both a leader and vote-getter in Texas just can’t be overstated.
Where Things Stand Today
This cycle, we’re not starting from scratch. We get to build on our grassroots movement from last cycle and use it as a jumping-off point to help us reach more voters, engage key coalitions, and ramp up our efforts sooner than before. It’s been game-changing.
The next several months are full of unknowns, but one thing is for sure: Colin is the Democrat best positioned to flip Texas blue in 2026. Period.
But hey, don’t just take it from us.
When Colin launched this Senate campaign back in August, multiple election experts immediately shifted the race in our direction. Poll after poll – four separate polls to date now – show Colin leading the top GOP candidate in the general election. And to top it off, polling shows that Colin is the only Democrat in this race who can win.
You know as well as I do that while polling and race ratings are great, they’re not enough to actually win an election. It takes resources. It takes people like you.
So today, we’re asking you to support our campaign with a donation of any amount. As we mentioned above, Colin made the decision to reject all corporate PAC money – a huge source of funding for most political campaigns these days – so he’s depending on you to chip in what you can, when you can, to power us forward.
If you want to help send a Democrat to the U.S. Senate from Texas for the first time in a generation, there’s no better way to make that happen than by pitching in a donation to our grassroots campaign. Especially today, the last day of the month. We’ve got a big goal to hit, and we’re not quite there yet. Will you give what you can? [ [link removed] ]
Flipping Texas blue has long been Democrats’ white whale, but with this team behind us, it doesn’t have to be anymore. We have an opportunity to do something incredible here, so thank you in advance for your support. We’re just getting started.
