“All other nations that tried to kill us have perished. Yet we have survived. Look at you.”
I will never forget these powerful words from Marie Doduck – a Survivor and co-founder of the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre – that I heard last year at an event for Jewish middle school students.

As the grandson of Survivors, learning about the Holocaust has always been important to me. But in the shadow of October 7, as extremists distort our past while chanting “Jews go back to Europe” on our streets, hearing from Marie and other Survivors is more vital than ever – they are living reminders of truth, resilience, and why we continue our traditions despite the challenges.
I know there will soon be a time when we won’t have the opportunity to hear survivors’ stories first-hand. That’s why it is incumbent upon all of us to listen to them while we can, find new ways to learn about the Holocaust, and ensure that Canadians from all faiths and backgrounds get involved.
As we enter November, Jewish communities across Canada will mark Holocaust Education Month <[link removed]> with special programs, events, and commemorations. In my hometown of Ottawa, my family and I will be taking part, and I hope you will too.

Je n'oublierai jamais ces paroles si fortes prononcées par Marie Doduck, survivante et cofondatrice du Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre, que j'ai entendues l'année dernière lors d'un événement destiné aux élèves juifs du collège.
<[link removed]>TROUVEZ UN ÉVÉNEMENT DANS VOTRE RÉGION <[link removed]>
En tant que petit-fils de survivants de l'Holocauste, il a toujours été important pour moi d'en apprendre davantage sur cette tragédie. Mais dans le contexte sombre du 7 octobre, alors que des extrémistes déforment notre passé en scandant « Les Juifs, retournez en Europe » dans nos rues, les témoignages de Marie et d'autres survivants sont plus essentiels que jamais. Ils sont un rappel vivant de la vérité, de la résilience et des raisons pour lesquelles nous perpétuons nos traditions malgré les difficultés.
Je sais qu'arrivera inéluctablement ce jour où nous n'aurons plus l'occasion d'entendre directement les témoignages des survivants. Or, il nous incombe à tous d'écouter leurs récits et de les perpétuer et de trouver de nouvelles façons d'apprendre et de veiller à ce que les Canadiens de toutes confessions et de tous les horizons puissent en profiter.
À l’aube de novembre, les communautés juives à travers le Canada célèbreront le Mois de l'éducation sur l'Holocauste <[link removed]> avec des événements majeurs et des commémorations uniques. Dans ma ville natale d'Ottawa, ma famille et moi y participerons, et j'espère que vous en ferez de même.
