In preparation for the 90th Legislative Session that begins in January 2027, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) is beginning the process to develop its Legislative Appropriations Request (LAR). The LAR’s significance is substantial, as it will outline the agency’s funding needs for fiscal years 2028 through 2029. DFPS will submit its LAR request to the Texas Legislature in August 2026.
