We are in the age of information. But with all of this information comes the threat of disinformation -- and no one knows this better than we do.
Disinformation is the false information deliberately and often covertly spread (as by the planting of rumors) in order to influence public opinion or obscure the truth.
Over the past couple years, and particularly over the past couple of months, our movement has been the target of countless disinformation campaigns online. From Russian accounts co-opting the Black Lives Matter name to Trump misleading Americans about the role of protestors in the recent uprisings, we know all too well the damage that this disinformation causes.
Our movement, our voices, and our lives are at risk of being manipulated and drowned out by right-wing conspiracy theories, foreign agents, and dangerous actors.
The threats made online translate into attacks in the real world -- and we won’t stand for them.
