John – this email might be a little long, but I wanted to reach out to you personally to share some thoughts about our race.

I am deeply appreciative of the outpouring of support I received following the announcement that a wealthy venture capitalist with deep pockets was trying to buy our Congressional seat.

I am proud of the grassroots support we have built. Two-thirds of our support comes from our district and 75 percent of our donations are $250 or less. And, I am honored to have earned the endorsement of more than 230 sheriffs, mayors, supervisors, district attorneys, superintendents, city council members, school board members as well as business, labor, non-profit, tribal and community leaders from across our district.

Unfortunately, after calling all of his ultra wealthy friends outside our district and bankrolling his campaign with nearly $150,000 of his money, we were outraised last quarter.

John, I’m going to be honest. Campaigns are expensive. To win this race we’ll need to invest in TV ads, direct mail, digital ads, supporting our volunteers as they knock on doors and make phone calls, and more. This will be even more crucial when we pass Prop 50 and I’m facing a new district where I’ll have to introduce myself to new voters.

But, I know that together, we can win.

My team and I are working very hard to raise the resources needed to compete and win this election cycle, so that I can continue our work together to address our district’s most pressing needs. But I need your help.
