Email from Rep. Gonzales Happy Halloween, Texas! Halloween is one of our favorite holidays at the Gonzales house. Our family enjoyed kicking off the fall festivities a day early with a very special trick-or-treat at the White House. Thank you, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, for hosting a fun-filled day. From my family to yours, have a happy and safe Halloween! Public Safety in Eagle Pass Great news for Maverick County! The City of Eagle Pass will receive a $500,000 COPS grant to hire more police officers. Helping South and West Texas communities receive federal COPS grant funding continues to be a top priority of mine, and I am grateful to have worked with the City of Eagle Pass to improve public safety along the border. In Congress, I've worked to secure tens of millions of dollars for South and West Texas communities to hire more police officers to help improve public safety outcomes. I also worked with President Trump to get the Working Families Tax Cut Act signed into law, which enacted $760 million to help law enforcement secure the border, defeat criminal gangs, and fight back against violent crime. Thank you to the men and women who work around the clock to keep us safe. We appreciate all you do for our communities! PICTURED: Congressman Gonzales with San Antonio police officers. Making Strides Against the Screwworm This week, the FDA issued an Emergency Use Authorization for chewable tablets to help treat New World screwworm infestations in dogs. This year, I've been working with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to grant emergency access for medications that will help treat and prevent the spread of this deadly parasite. Earlier this year, the FDA approved a medication to treat and prevent screwworm infestations in cattle. To learn more about my work in Congress to stop the spread of the screwworm, click here.
