Secretary Kristi Noem denied that DHS has detained U.S. citizens – a lie that fits the Trump regime’s growing and troubling campaign to erase the truth. Add your name to demand the records and expose the cover-up.

People For the American Way.

Friend,

Secretary Kristi Noem looked straight into the cameras and lied.

At a press conference in Indiana today, Secretary Noem was asked whether DHS had detained U.S. citizens, and she said: "There’s no American citizens have been arrested or detained."

It’s an outrageous denial of what ProPublica and countless victims have already documented – more than 170 Americans wrongfully detained during Trump’s deportation operations, some held for days without contact with their families or lawyers.

This isn’t just one lie. It’s part of a pattern – the Trump regime’s ongoing effort to deny the truth, distort reality, and condition the public to accept whatever it says next. It’s how power protects itself from accountability.

We can’t let that happen. We can’t let them bury the truth about what DHS is doing to American citizens.

Add your name now to demand Secretary Noem release the records and expose the regime’s abuses for what they are – deliberate, unlawful, and un-American. >>

Every time they lie, they’re testing whether we’ll accept it. Every time we speak out, we remind them the truth still matters – and that power still answers to the people. Don’t let them rewrite this moment. Help us make it part of the record.

Friend,

The government is detaining U.S. citizens and pretending it’s law enforcement. It isn’t. It’s the calculated misuse of federal power – an administration using the machinery of the state to intimidate, to punish, and to silence. What’s happening inside the Department of Homeland Security is not a lapse in judgment or a bureaucratic mistake. It’s a choice – and it’s one this regime keeps making.

Under the Trump administration, the number of wrongful detentions carried out by DHS has surged –and they are not happening by accident. According to ProPublica, more than 170 U.S. citizens have been detained by federal immigration agents in recent months, many held for days and in at least one case deprived of water for 24 hours.[1] These incidents have occurred across the country reflecting what congressional investigators have identified as an escalating trend of unlawful detentions.[2]

A U.S. Army veteran was held in ICE custody for three days without access to a phone or an attorney. Another citizen was detained in Chicago because agents decided she didn’t “look like” her last name, even after showing a valid passport. These are not isolated abuses – they are part of a system that has learned it can act without consequence.

That’s why Congressional Democrats, Senator Richard Blumenthal and Representative Robert Garcia, have launched a formal inquiry to demand that DHS Secretary Kristi Noem release all records tied to these unlawful detentions. Their request seeks to uncover who was targeted, what training and directives agents received, and why these violations continue.

We’re joining that call – and we need your voice to make sure it cannot be ignored.

Add your name to our petition demanding Secretary Kristi Noem release these records and stop the unlawful detention of U.S. citizens. >>

No government agency has the authority to detain people without cause. When those in power violate constitutional rights and then conceal the evidence, it becomes a test of whether the public will tolerate it. We can’t – and we won’t.

Sign the petition now to demand transparency and accountability from Secretary Noem and DHS. >>

These abuses persist only when the people in charge believe no one will stop them. It’s up to us to prove them wrong – to demand justice, to insist on the truth, and to make sure power is never allowed to operate without accountability again.

In solidarity,

— People For the American Way
