John,
Three years ago today, July 10th, 2017, I launched my first campaign for Congress!
When I think back to that day, the day I stepped forward to say, “Yes I’m running,” I am filled with not only gratitude but also a sense of renewed conviction to our democracy.
I remember so clearly the day I decided to run. It was the day, in 2017, when the GOP-controlled House and my predecessor voted for a bill that would strip healthcare coverage from millions of people.
Watching the person elected to serve our community cause our neighbors to fear for the health and wellbeing of their families was the final straw.
I remember the months my husband, Adam, and I spent planning, sitting in our living room, making pro and con lists, brainstorming creative ways to grow the campaign, deciding that, yes I was really going to run, and mapping out the vision for the type of principled campaign I wanted to run.
I had no idea the degree to which my community would rally around our campaign and me. As I held my first events, made my first phone calls, and hosted my first volunteer info sessions, I didn’t know what to expect. But people showed up for our campaign in numbers and in ways I could have never predicted. They inspired a motivation in me that fueled me on the hard days of the campaign.
I am grateful for how fiercely people took up the mantle to support the type of representative I was running to be, one who listens, questions “the way things have always been done,” works to bring people together, and works for the people.
On Election Night 2018, we made history together, and I became the first Democrat since 1968 to be elected in VA-07.
Our re-election campaign won’t be easy, but in the three years since I launched my first campaign, I remain deeply committed to the work I am doing and the people and promise driving me. I will never stop fighting for the families of Central Virginia and I will never stop searching for solutions that will bring meaningful opportunity to our district.
Thank you for all that you have done to help our campaign over the past three years. As we head towards November, we need your continued support. Will you help us with a donation today? Will you help us by volunteering?
Your financial support:
-
Helps us hire additional campaign staff who are bringing their experience and creativity to our campaign.
-
Helps us run tailored digital ads so that we can reach potential voters in all corners of the district, including those who aren’t the recipients of typical political messages but whose votes matter just as much
-
Helps us pay for postcards, campaign literature, and yard signs, so that people can spread our message and show their support across the district!
|
As a volunteer, you can, among so many other things:
-
Reach voters directly through virtual phone banking
-
Deliver yard signs across the district
-
Write postcards to engage voters personally
-
Share your skills and talents with the campaign

Thank you to everyone who has made a difference in this campaign, in this district, and in my life over the past three years. The work we do together will make a stronger Virginia.
Fondly,
Abigail
