Dear Advocates,

Since April 2023, Sudan has faced one of the world’s most devastating humanitarian crises. The ongoing war between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) has displaced over 14 million people, forced 3 million to flee to neighboring countries, and claimed more than 150,000 lives.

The RSF continues to commit ethnic cleansing, forced starvation, sexual violence, and mass executions, especially in Darfur, where its 18-month siege on el-Fasher has just culminated in entire communities being wiped out, according to satellite imagery.

We cannot continue to ignore the genocide happening in Sudan. It is imperative that you take BOTH action below to make a difference now.

For far too long, the international community has blatantly ignored the atrocities being committed against the Sudanese and avoided calling out countries that have fueled the violence, including the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and more. The Sudanese deserve better.

It’s time for Congress to act. Right now, there are several key bills that have been introduced this session pressuring external actors to stop fueling the devastation and providing a US strategy in Sudan, including:

  • H.R. 2059: Introduced by Rep. Sara Jacobs, this prohibits U.S. arms sales to the UAE until it ends support for the RSF.
  • H.R. 1939: Introduced by Rep. Gregory Meeks, the U.S. Engagement in Sudanese Peace Act provides a comprehensive strategy to strengthen U.S. diplomacy and humanitarian response.
  • H. Res. 479: Introduced by Rep. Chris Smith, this urges the appointment of a U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan to advance peace efforts.
  • S.935: Introduced by Senator Van Hollen, this bill would prohibit U.S. arms sales to the UAE until it ends support for the RSF
  • S.Res.126: Introduced by Senator Booker, this resolution calls upon the United Nations to expand the existing arms embargo on Darfur and extend it to cover all of Sudan to help stop the flow of weapons.

The Sudanese can no longer wait. Congress must act immediately to help end this genocide.

Sincerely,
