Daily Dose of Democracy

Hi james,

You probably haven’t heard about it, but next week, a state Supreme Court election could determine whether or not Democrats can EVER win the presidency again.

On November 4th, Pennsylvania will vote on whether or not to retain not one, not two, but THREE Democratic state Supreme Court Justices. If the vote ends up being “no,” Gov. Josh Shapiro will have to appoint three interim judges who have to be confirmed by the state’s Republican-controlled Senate and then Democrats will have to run three more Supreme Court justice races the next year.

This opens up a whole lot of chances for Republicans to seize control of the state Supreme Court, which currently has a 5-2 Democratic majority, and the consequences could be catastrophic for our democracy.

Take action!

Pennsylvania is one of the most competitive battleground states in the country — both Trump and Biden won the state by less than 1% of the vote. With such a small margin for error, Republicans are surely going to try to use lawsuits to overturn the will of voters, and if there’s a Republican majority on the state Supreme Court, Democrats might not ever be allowed to win the presidency again.

Republicans know how much is at stake here; that’s why GOP billionaires like Trump’s crony Jeff Yass have poured nearly $8 million into the race, making it the most expensive in Pennsylvania history.

The State and Local Elections Alliance is working overtime to get out the vote and sound the alarm for voters, but they’re up against a tsunami of Republican dark money. Will you make a donation to help fund SLEA’s efforts to mobilize the grassroots and make sure that the Democrats keep control of Pennsylvania’s state Supreme Court?

Chip in!

Thanks for all you do,

Your friends at Dose of Democracy
