It’s a time of year dedicated to lighthearted scares, terrors, and horrors.

But this year feels different.

We’ve watched in horror as right-wing extremists in Washington have attempted to shove a spending bill through Congress that rips away healthcare and social safety nets for millions of Americans. On the ground, Monica is working tirelessly to connect residents with local resources to mitigate the damage of the true horror story that is this administration.

During this time of year, all of us at Team Monica are setting up spooky decorations, watching horror movies with friends and family, and putting the final touches on creepy costumes.

But this year, the nightmares aren’t coming from a film, or a box at the Spirit Store. The call is coming from inside the (White) House.

Millions facing the loss of medicaid and food-assistance programs.
Entire cities plunged into chaos with the weaponization of our military against civilians. Thousands of residents across the country abducted by federal agents, with many now missing.

These are only the most recent headlines, and we’re less than a year into a four year term.

At the local level, we are working around the clock to amplify food banks, coordinate with pro bono legal agencies, and connect residents who need healthcare with services. With three more years to go and a lot of uncertainty along the way, it’s crucial that we remain laser-focused on one thing: you.
