It’s Emma.
The government shutdown is now heading into its second month — and the consequences for families in North Carolina are growing more serious by the day.
Here’s what’s at stake if Speaker Mike Johnson refuses to reopen the House and end the shutdown:
- SNAP benefits may not be paid in November. Thousands of families could lose access to the food they rely on to get through the month.
- Head Start funding is running out. Programs could face furloughs or closures, cutting off early education, childcare, and health screenings for low-income families.
- Healthcare costs will rise sharply. Without premium assistance, middle-income households could see premiums more than double next year.
Families could lose food assistance, children could lose access to care and education, and health costs could skyrocket — all because Speaker Johnson and House Republicans are choosing to play politics over the people they’re supposed to represent.
Our team’s $5,000 end-of-month fundraising deadline is tomorrow, and we’re counting on grassroots supporters to help us keep fighting for the programs North Carolina families depend on. Will you chip in $10 before the deadline to help us keep going?
