John,
Our country has made great strides in addressing tobacco product use, including driving rates among kids to a 25-year low. But our work is far from done, and this progress is at risk because critical public health programs are under attack.
Stand with us; make a gift now to defend the gains we’ve worked so hard to achieve: [link removed]
Before joining the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids earlier this year, I helped lead efforts at the FDA and CDC to reduce tobacco-related death and disease. I’ve therefore seen firsthand how strong public health programs save lives and billions in financial costs to society.
And I’ve never been more concerned than I am right now.
What’s happening: The Administration has completely eliminated the CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health, and they’ve cut staff at the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products. To make matters worse, the Administration has used the government shutdown to attempt to remove many other federal public health experts, including at the CDC.
Why this matters: These agencies are on the front lines of the nation’s fight against the human and financial toll of tobacco. The CDC supports state tobacco prevention and cessation programs, runs the highly successful Tips from Former Smokers media campaign, and helps conduct the National Youth Tobacco Survey and other surveys that track trends in tobacco use. The FDA regulates the manufacturing, marketing, and sale of tobacco products to protect public health.
What we're doing: The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is leading a coordinated effort urging Congress to support and fund these vital programs. We have:
* Run ads and generated media coverage nationwide about the devastating impact of these cuts.
* Rallied a coalition of over 100 organizations to contact the Administration and Congress in support of these CDC and FDA programs.
* Generated over 85,000 emails from constituents to their members of Congress urging support for these programs.
* Supported litigation to block harmful and illegal Administration actions.
…and more. But we can't win this fight without help.
We need you!
Help us protect critical public health programs by making a sustaining contribution to the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. Whatever your contribution, your support ensures we have the steady resources to continue this critically important work. And that's more important now than ever before.

If you're unable to donate monthly, your one-time gift [[link removed]] still makes a big difference.
We're doing everything we can to protect and accelerate the progress our movement has made over many decades. These cuts are nothing short of public health malpractice – and the time to act is now.
Thank you for standing with us,
Brian King
