Dear friend,
As the seasons turn, we are reminded that faith and resistance grow together. This month, we honor our ancestors through Día de los Muertos, prepare for massive SNAP cuts that threaten the lives of millions, and look ahead to raising the seasons of organizing to come.
In this letter:
* SNAP Relief—New Disabled South’s life-saving work
* Faith Resources from Freedom Church of the Poor
* NYC, You’re Invited–We Pray Freedom book launch
* Reminder–Young Organizers Survival Corps
* In the news–Straight White American Jesus Podcast
In solidarity and hope,
The Kairos Team

In response to the impending SNAP cuts and the millions of Americans who will go without food this month, New Disabled South offered one-time payments to disabled southerners. NDS is a true leader in what survival organizing needs to look like in response to this sort of violence.
In fewer than 3 days, they received 18,588 requests. With this volume, they distributed $50,000 and had to close the support. pending further donations. This is a great example of just how dire our circumstances are, and the role survival organizing has to play.

** Resource: Día De Los Muertos—building an altar
------------------------------------------------------------

Día de los Muertos and All Saints’ Day are sacred times to remember ancestors and those lost to unjust systems. Building an ofrenda—an altar with marigolds, food, water, and mementos—welcomes their spirits and honors their lives. In the Freedom Church tradition, we embrace these rituals in relationship with the communities that practice them, lifting them up as acts of healing, resistance, and commitment to a world where everyone has what they need to live.

Straight White American Jesus
The conversation weaves through Liz and Charon’s personal journeys. They explore how faith traditions, particularly Christianity, can serve as public, justice-oriented practice, what it means to “pray with your feet,” and how ritual itself can be political.
