Tēnā koe Friend -
E te iwi kia ora tātau. Kia ora hoki tātau me ngā mate nui o te
It’s 70 days till election 2020 and we are gearing
up well. Our team are focusing on their respective Tiki Tour and Hui
throughout the motu and our whānau or volunteers are helping erect
hoardings on private properties throughout the motu. Hoardings are
allowed on public sites in just over a week.
We continue our journey south from Te Tai Tokerau to Tāmaki
Makaurau to John
Tamihere who is known as JT. He isn’t a stranger to politics and
brings a heap of knowledge to the team and you can learn more about JT
below.
COVID-19 Public Response Act
There are a number of groups putting further energy into the
COVID-19 Public Response Act. We are proud to have raised this
through a meme that the team created which got te ao Māori motivated
and into action. Donna Pokere-Phillips has also released a video
that you can view. Donna reminds us of the way this government really
views Māori and the racist actions to single out marae in this
act.
At the time, supporters of the government tried to divert our
attention but the fact is, they took out the term marae from one
section and hid it in another section to try and hide their true
intentions. Let’s keep this issue live because the Deputy Leader of
Labour arrogantly stated, ‘be careful of what you ask for’ as a threat
to try and growl us for using our democratic right to speak up against
injustice. Kia mataara tonu tātau.
John
Tamihere for Tāmaki Makaurau
JT is our co-leader and of Ngāti Porou, Whakatōhea, Tainui,
Scottish and Irish descent and was raised in West Auckland. To get a
glimpse into his upbringing there’s a great Māori Conversation with
his follow westie, Hone Harawira who was raised in the same community
and part of the great West Auckland, check out this link
of the two of them sharing memories and cracking up at each other.
JT has noted already that he’s seen the light and is on the road to
redemption by joining the Party. One thing that I’ve learnt about JT
is he is extremely kind and doesn’t show this side of him in front of
the cameras but is very evident when you spend time with him.
He is also a person, that will fight tirelessly for our people and
is why so many of our people in West Auckland love JT. When it comes
to his mokopuna, it appears he is putty in their hands which according
to my mother is an exclusive club that I’ll never understand until I
have my own mokopuna.
