Dear John,
Our First Freedom, religious freedom, is like a great wall that protects all of our constitutionally guaranteed freedoms.
It’s what keeps us free.
When I think about it in those terms, I can’t help but think about the prophet Nehemiah. There’s not a better story in the Bible that parallels the current state of the fortress that is religious freedom.
In 445 B.C., Jerusalem was in a state of ruin with the city’s walls in shambles and its gates burned. The people of the city were living in great trouble, shame and misery. When Nehemiah heard of Jerusalem’s plight he asked the Lord to remember His promise to gather His people from their dispersion - if they repented.
The Lord heard Nehemiah’s prayers and made it possible for Nehemiah to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the city walls and repair its gates.
For the past two generations, our First Freedom has been under constant assault. The enemies of faith have chipped away at it...weakened it...placed it in jeopardy. So much so that it’s up to people of faith like you and me to come together to restore the fortress of liberty.
Fortunately, with the help of patriots like you, we’ve not only been able to keep the enemies of faith at bay, we’ve been able to add additional legal protections for religious freedom.
The work we’re doing together is reflected in our precedent-setting victories at the Supreme Court for Coach Kennedy, Gerald Groff, school choice in Maine and the Bladensburg Peace Cross.
This is a great start, but the enemies of faith won’t be stopping their assault on the fortress of liberty any time soon. And unless we do something to secure the future of faith and freedom, we too will be living in great trouble, shame and misery.
For the past 30 years, First Liberty has been the last line of defense and the greatest hope for victory in the fight for faith.
But now the question at hand is: Will First Liberty be here to fight for religious freedom in the year 2050?
John, only you can answer that question.
Imagine if just 2,050 Americans bequeath $25,000 in their wills or living trusts to First Liberty. Think how that would strengthen the legacy of religious liberty for families in this country, and guarantee that we would be there to fly the flag of religious freedom.
Like in Scripture, can 2,050 mighty people of valor step forward and engage in the fight to protect our religious rights? Will you join us in a new and exciting way?
