John,

This type of event is what March For Our Lives is all about, and it makes
me proud to see. March recently held a RIFL Coalition phone bank, and
young people showed up and got to work.

The RIFL (Responsibility in Firearm Legislation) Act is a landmark piece
of legislation that would establish a no-fault injury restitution fund —
financed entirely by firearm manufacturers — to cover the costs of medical
care, recovery, and long-term support for victims of gun violence.

Together, those phonebankers made over 200 calls to legislators and
leaders, and as a result, Senator Lakesia Collins and Representative
Michael Crawford agreed to sign on and discuss the legislation further.

When young people organize together, we move the needle.

Too often, political pundits and the establishment insist that young
people are disengaged and sitting out of the political process. But that
couldn’t be further from the truth. Every time I see young people show up
at events like this one — making calls, leading campaigns, and pushing for
change — I’m reminded of the power we hold when we come together.

That’s exactly what March For Our Lives is investing in right now. We’re
building a new membership structure to make our greatest strength — young
people — accessible to partners and coalitions like the RIFL Alliance.
When moments like this arise, we can quickly mobilize trained, passionate
young people to take action. We make sure youth voices aren’t just in the
room — they’re leading the charge.

By building this infrastructure, we’re creating the connective tissue that
helps young people step in, show up, and shape the outcome in real time.

If you’re based in Illinois, you can help make history. Call the Illinois
General Assembly switchboard at 217-782-2000 and urge your state
legislators to pass the RIFL Act. This number connects you directly with
both your Representative and Senator — making it easy to speak up for
change.

If you’re outside Illinois, you can still take action by sharing this
message with friends and family in the state and spreading the word
online. Real change starts when we all raise our voices.
