"You sold us a dream!" Woman confronts JD Vance on abandonment of the American Dream at right-wing event
At a Turning Point USA event in Mississippi yesterday, JD Vance surely expected to be pitched a series of softballs from the kinds of people he assumed who would attend such a gathering: "How is the president so handsome?" "Who do you hate more, immigrants or communists?" "What's your favorite brand of couch?" Ya know, that sort of thing. But he got nothing of the sort. One brave woman called the vice president out to his face about the hypocrisy of having a multiracial and multicultural family while pushing Christian white supremacy and demanded to know how the Trump regime could sell immigrants on the American Dream, reap rewards from it, and then just turn its back on them. "And when you talk about too many immigrants here, when did you guys decide that number? Why did you sell us a dream? You made us spend our youth, our wealth in this country, and gave us a dream. You don’t owe us anything. We have worked hard for it. Then how can you, as a vice president, stand there and say that 'we have too many of them now, and we are going to take them out' to people who are here rightfully so by paying them money that you guys asked us? You gave us the path and now how can you stop it and tell us we don’t belong here anymore?" Vance responded with the usual "ohhh, its just ILLEGAL immigration we don't like" bullshit, but the woman's question hits to the inherent contradiction and hypocrisy in the Trump administration's motivating ethos and in the makeup of the Vance family itself. No matter how they try to twist it, what they're trying to do is antithetical to and incompatible with the United States as it exists today, and we all know it. All that remains to be seen is if we can summon enough resistance to stop them from forcing their swastika-shaped peg into the square hole.

Fed-up judge finally takes aggressive action against Trump's immigration goons
US District Judge Sara Ellis has apparently reached the end of her judicial rope, ordering US Customs and Border Patrol commander-at-large (yes, actual title) Greg Bovino to appear before her in court EVERY DAY at 6pm to report on the heavy-handed and at times incredibly violent crowd-control tactics he and his agents are using in their ongoing immigration enforcement campaign in Chicago dubbed "Operation Midway Blitz." Chicago — which shares no international borders, it apparently must be noted — has become a focal point in Donald Trump's authoritarian immigration crackdown, with militarized agents routinely using excessive force and firing tear gas at peaceful protesters exercising their First Amendment rights. Ellis previously ordered Bovino and his goon squad to curtail their use of tear gas and required federal law enforcement agents equipped with body cameras to keep them on at all times when conducting "law enforcement activities." Ellis is presiding over a lawsuit, filed by journalists and citizens of Chicago, accusing the government of "engineering their own pretext for their presence and behavior in Chicago" by "regularly inflicting harm on civilians who are simply protesting" the immigration enforcement operation — a tried-and-true fascist tactic as old as, well, fascism itself.

Virginia’s Republican AG throws major wrench into Democratic plan to fight Trump gerrymanders
Jay Jones for Attorney General: Virginia’s Republican Attorney General just issued a ruling blocking the state legislature from amending the state’s Constitution, which would allow VA Democrats to redraw the maps and create new Democratic seats to counter the GOP gerrymanders in Texas. This means that next week’s Attorney General race just became a matter of CRITICAL importance for our democracy. If Democratic candidate Jay Jones wins, we could pick up several vital Congressional seats that could decide who controls congress in 2026. The polls are NECK and NECK. Will you rush a donation to Jay Jones and help push him over the finish line?
JD Vance lets his white nationalist flag fly in appalling podcast interview with anti-immigrant host
Cosplay hillbilly JD Vance appeared on Miranda Devine's Pod Force One podcast and spent a good chunk of his time spewing nativist bullshit, metaphorically spitting in the cultural melting pot that has been a defining feature of America for centuries. Devine claimed it "creates division and hatred" for people of other cultural backgrounds to move into a (white) neighborhood after the vice president offered up a hypothetical example of "20 people” pricing out US citizens by moving into a "three-bedroom house." Okaaay. Let's definitely not consider a notoriously predatory housing industry, decades of regressive tax policies benefitting the 1%, vulture capitalists gobbling up vacant housing units by the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS and turning them into over-priced rentals, or any of the other crushing, socio-economic factors that have steadily driven home ownership out of reach for tens of millions of Americans AND immigrants over the past 20+ years, nope! Identify the (many brown-skinned) bogeymen, pine for a mythical past where white folks had it real good, and blame bleeding-heart liberals for daring to display a modicum of empathy for their fellow man. It's America's broken immigration that's responsible for the growing division in our country, not jingo-bell-ringing nationalists casually repackaging white supremacy for the 21st century and weaponizing xenophobia for political gain. Got it.

Tennessee man spends a month in jail before charges are dropped over Trump meme posted in Facebook group for Charlie Kirk vigil
Charges have finally been dropped against Larry Bushart, a 61-year-old former police officer, who was jailed for more than a month over an anodyne post in a Facebook group setup as a memorial for slain right-wing activist Charlie Kirk. Bushart's "crime?" Sharing a meme literally quoting Donald Trump when he responded to a 2024 school shooting in Perry, Iowa, saying, "We have to get over it." We call it fascism because it is fascism.

Trump tells Pentagon to immediately resume testing US nuclear weapons
Our Nobel Peace Prize-chasing imbecile-in-chief and ender of many mythical wars has ordered the Department of Defense War to immediately resume testing nuclear weapons. Hoo-boy. Extrajudicial murder sprees! Violent immigrant purges! Nuclear kablooey! Someone nominate this man for next year's award already!
GOP rep publicly admits that Trump regime is keeping Congress in the dark on extrajudicial boat bombings
GOP Rep. Mike Turner took CNN’s Eric Burnett by surprise by telling her that the Trump regime has largely kept a key congressional committee out of the loop regarding US boat bombings in the Caribbean and the Pacific. America's wannabe dictator and DUI hire Pete Hegseth have boasted about the ongoing military strikes on vessels in international waters that they claim are crewed by "narcoterrorists" who are trafficking drugs from Venezuela and Colombia. The administration has provided no evidence for its claims, which, even if true, would be extremely dubious legal grounds for bombing the vessels. At least 57 people, mostly Venezuelans and Colombians, have been killed in the strikes. Trump has even suggested the US may bomb Venezuela directly, adding, "I don’t think we’re gonna necessarily ask for a declaration of war, I think we’re just gonna kill people that are bringing drugs into our country. OK? We’re gonna kill them. They’re going to be, like, dead."
Democratic contender for Congress indicted over Chicago ICE protests
Kat Abughazaleh, the candidate for Illinois’ 9th Congressional District, made headlines when an ICE thug picked her up and threw her to the ground at a protest outside ICE’s Broadview detention center in Chicago. Now Abughazaleh and five other activists are facing indictments accusing them of using "force, intimidation, and threat" as part of a conspiracy to prevent an unnamed ICE agent from "discharging his duties" and to "injure him in his person or property." Given the frequency with which ICE and the Trump regime in general concoct false charges to punish, intimdate, and prosecute those who stand against them, it is fair to assume these are wildly overblown charges with little evidence backing them up. If convicted, the protesters could face up to SIX YEARS in prison for the conspiracy charges and EIGHT years in prison for the intimidation charge. This represents a dramatic escalation of the Trump regime’s efforts to intimidate and punish protesters for standing up against their tyranny. We must do everything we can to support them and keep up the pressure against Trump, ICE, and the violence engine they’re trying to impose on an unwilling American public.
Ted Cruz calls Marjorie Taylor Greene "very liberal"
Good grief. Settle down, Raphael.

JD Vance says only "really terrible" people mistreat dogs — apparently forgetting his Cabinet colleague Kristi Noem shot a puppy dead
The vice president really had himself a day to forget yesterday, as our THIRD Vance story of the morning makes painfully clear... "If you can actually cause suffering to an innocent animal, you’re probably the kind of person who doesn’t worry about suffering in people as well and that’s been my experience. If you mistreat dogs, that’s a 100 percent sign that you’re gonna be a really terrible person," Vance opined. We totally agree, JD! If you're willing to just shoot a puppy in the head, you probably don't think twice about disappearing immigrants in the dead of night, ripping families apart outside immigration courtrooms, sending detainees to foreign gulags, or denying human beings their basic rights and holding them secret facilities for weeks on end in blatant violation of US law. That next Cabinet meeting should be an interesting one!
