A Not-So-Scary Tale: Cecília’s Journey and Update

This Halloween, while others tell ghost stories, we’re celebrating a real-life tale of hope and resilience. 

In 2021, a young anteater named Cecília was found alone beside her mother, who had been struck by a car while fleeing the fires in Brazil’s Pantanal. Thanks to our partners in Brazil, Cecília received two years of care and was released back into the wild in 2023.  

Now, Cecília is not just surviving—she’s thriving. This August, camera traps revealed her return... with a newborn cub clinging to her back! Cecília’s journey from orphan to mother shows what’s possible when compassion meets action. Help us make the next not-so-scary tale possible.
