Dear Green American,

Ask any parent, one of their kid’s favorite foods is likely chicken nuggets.

But you may be shocked to learn that whether you purchase nuggets at a fast-food restaurant or from your grocer’s freezer, child labor may have played a role in making them.

Department of Labor investigations conducted under the Biden Administration found multiple violations in meat processing facilities used by poultry giants Tyson and Perdue, including:

minors as young as 13 working in hazardous conditions at Tyson Foods facilities in Arkansas and Tennessee.

children as young as 13 working in hazardous conditions in a Perdue Farms Facility in Virginia.

And, getting nuggets at takeout opens the door to child labor as well. McDonald’s has been sourcing chicken from Tyson Foods for 40 years, Chik Fil A has also sourced chicken from Tyson Foods. And significant child labor violations have been racked up by McDonald’s, Chik Fil A, and other fast-food chains in their franchises.

TAKE ACTION ([link removed])

Child labor stories made headlines in recent years, as companies were fined millions of dollars, but then faded away. But child labor is not fading away. And, with cuts to the federal government, enforcement appears to be taking a backseat.

We need to make sure that these companies know that consumers still care.

Take action today ([link removed]) to tell Tyson Foods, Perdue and other meat processors to take action to end child labor in their meatpacking facilities.

Because children shouldn’t be making meals for other children.
