PFAW Member,
Republicans in Florida are proving just how much they're opposed to the expansion of voting rights.
A preliminary study has found that despite a voter referendum to restore voting rights to former felons, a newly passed law by the Republican legislature would prevent almost EIGHTY PERCENT of otherwise newly eligible voters from ever reaching the ballot box - and a disproportionate number of them are individuals of color.1

In a scathing editorial, The New York Times blasted Florida Republicans for defying the will of voters by passing a law that almost immediately neutralized the effects of Amendment 4:2
"Florida’s Republican lawmakers decided Amendment 4 was too much democracy for their taste.
As the lawmakers surely knew when they wrote the law, they would be re-disenfranchising a large number of people who just had their rights restored.
Florida Republicans, like their counterparts in other states and in Washington, D.C., are becoming increasingly comfortable with the perks of minority rule, like the ability to disregard what the majority of voters demand. They appear to know that when you can’t win on your ideas, you win by undermining democracy."
Republicans know damn well their actions are deliberately disenfranchising MILLIONS of voters in Florida and across the country. Progressives must continue fighting back in courts and at the polls.
PFAW and other progressive organizations are fighting hard to stop Republican attempts to suppress voters, by empowering and investing in progressive organizers and candidates across the country through our proven electoral programs.
With your continued support and feedback, we can continue this crucial work to unseat Trump Republicans and strengthen the American Way.
