Carnegie Mellon has made it harder to hold on-campus events ([link removed]) after Gaza-related protests roiled other campuses last year.

CMU Democrats’ request to protest the Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit, held this summer with President Donald Trump as a keynote speaker, was denied under new policies ([link removed]) . University leaders also limited expression on the time-honored forum of “The Fence.”

“We’ve been avoiding making large events specifically because the policy creates these massive cost barriers, all these hoops you have to jump through,” said River Sepinuck of the campus Democrats. CMU Republicans, too, said the new rules slow down expression.
