The Supreme Court’s two 7-2 decisions on Trump’s tax returns are a mixed bag. They reaffirm that the president is not above the law, which is a big win (if you can believe that). But by sending both cases back to lower courts, they also guarantee that these congressional and state subpoenas won’t result in a release of Trump’s tax returns before Election Day.
That’s not good enough!
Since 2015, Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund has been demanding the release of Trump’s tax returns. We demand to know what conflicts of interest exist between Trump’s duties as president and the bills he signs and the policies he implements (think about the Trump-GOP tax scam, federal pandemic loans to businesses, and foreign policy decisions regarding Russia and Turkey).
And, we demand to know if Trump is a tax dodging cheat as has been previously alleged by the New York Times.[1]

In a major victory for transparency and accountability in government, the Supreme Court ruled today that Congress conducting oversight and local prosecutors pursuing criminal activity have the right to see financial records of President Trump, including his tax returns.
But, as one legal expert on SCOTUSblog said: “we are going to have more litigation, and no one is going to see any financial documents any time soon.”[1]
This is because in both cases relating to Trump’s tax returns, the Supreme Court has sent their ruling back to lower courts. According to one legal writer:[2]
In 2016, Donald Trump became the first major party presidential candidate since Richard Nixon to not release his tax returns. Now, just four months before the next election, we demand to know how Trump’s decisions as president―domestic and international―impact his businesses and personal financial wealth.
