Hi John,

Animal rescuer Zoe Rosenberg was just found *guilty* of felony conspiracy and three misdemeanors for her rescue of four chickens from Perdue's Petaluma Poultry slaughterhouse. These charges carry a potential sentence of *nearly 5 years in jail.* Meanwhile, Petaluma Poultry faces no consequences for leaving sick animals to die or scalding animals alive.

After the verdict was read, *prosecutor Matt Hobson asked for Zoe to be immediately remanded into custody* , saying she is a threat to the public and dismissing her life-threatening medical issues as not an issue because there are diabetic people are in jail. (He did not mention how often diabetic inmates die in custody.) Zoe's attorneys, Chris Carraway, Staff Attorney at the Animal Activist Legal Defense Project, and Kevin Little, argued against her being taken into custody awaiting sentencing because these are nonviolent offenses and because of her very serious complications from type 1 diabetes including stomach paralysis. Judge Gnoss chose not to remand Zoe into custody but *he ordered that she be placed back on a GPS ankle monitor to ensure that she does not return to Petaluma Poultry.* He also ordered her to have no contact with alleged co-conspirators including defense witnesses Carla Cabral and Raven Deerbrook. Zoe's sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 3rd. ( [link removed] )

*Zoe and her legal team will appeal this conviction,* including several of the court’s rulings, such as its refusal to allow her to present a necessity defense and severe restrictions on what animal cruelty evidence the jury was allowed to see.

This is unjust and heartbreaking. Still, we know that you have to take big risks to change the world. We just saw an amazing win with the news that Ridglan Farms will finally shut down 8 years after we exposed them. With persistence and courage, we will see Petaluma Poultry shut down before we know it, too. But that requires continued action.
