Supreme Court Rulings on Little Sisters and Religious Schools are a Win for All People of Faith

The Little Sisters of the Poor have been called the world’s most tenacious nuns for good reason, battling for the past eight years in court to reject government coercion and protect their freedom of conscience.

Wednesday’s victory at the Supreme Court is a major win for people of faith, as a 7-2 decision upheld a 2018 agency regulation allowing the group of nuns and other religious non-profit entities to refuse to provide contraception in their employee health plans.

In a separate ruling, the High Court also held (by the same 7-2 margin) that religious schools can hire and fire employees who teach the faith free from government interference.

In other words, it’s reasonable for religious schools to choose teachers according to religious standards, not the government’s.

COVID-19 Deaths Below 300
For First Time Since Pandemic Began, COVID-19 Deaths Remain Below 300 for Three Days in a Row
By: Zachary Mettler

Here’s some great news that you likely didn’t know.

Despite a continuing spike in COVID-19 positive cases, deaths have continued to fall and have now remained below 300 deaths per day for three days in a row. This is the first time this has happened since the pandemic began back in March.

The number of COVID-19 positive cases started increasing one month ago on June 8, 2020. Additionally, the U.S. hit a new high of 57,209 positive tests in one day on July 3.

However, despite the increase in cases, there were just 273 deaths due to COVID-19 on July 4, 212 on July 5 and 244 on July 6.

This is encouraging news. Deaths due to the coronavirus have fallen a striking 92% since reaching a high of 2,701 on May 6.

SCOTUS Allows States to Enforce Faithless Elector' Laws
SCOTUS Allows States to Enforce ‘Faithless Elector’ Laws

By: Bruce Hauknecht

It started out as a loosely organized attempt to challenge the Electoral College vote in the 2016 presidential election with the intent to throw the result into the House of Representatives to decide. It ended today with a unanimous Supreme Court ruling in a pair of related cases that allows states to enforce the voting pledges of their presidential “electors,” thereby ensuring that the will of the voters in any given state’s general election will be carried out.

Here’s how the case developed. A few electors in Colorado and Washington state who were pledged to vote for Hillary Clinton for president hoped to convince 37 Republican “electors” around the country to abandon their pledges to vote for Donald Trump – as their home state election results and law dictated – and cast their ballots instead for any other Republican. If successful, it would have denied Trump enough electoral votes to keep him from reaching 270 (the number necessary to win). The method they chose to induce the necessary Republican defections was to lead by example. Instead of casting their ballots for Ms. Clinton, as they had pledged, they cast votes for third parties such as Gov. John Kasich.

Ohio’s Oldest Abortion Clinic Closes
Ohio’s Oldest Abortion Clinic Closes After 47-Years, Abortionist and Entire Staff Retires
By: Brittany Raymer

The first abortion clinic to open in Ohio after the landmark Roe v. Wade decision will permanently close this week due to the pending retirement of the abortionist and most of the clinic’s staff members. This decision will bring the number of Ohio’s abortion clinics down to eight.

Abortion can be a profitable business, but it’s one few have the stomach to pursue. Many former abortionists report that the practice of ending the lives of preborn babies on a day-to-day basis can become soul-crushing work. The vast majority of medical school graduates in the fields of OB/GYN are not interested in even pursuing training in abortion procedures.

“The closure of Ohio’s first abortion clinic is a testimony to the perseverance of the pro-life community in Ohio, and God’s faithfulness to hear our prayers,” Aaron Baer, President of Citizens for Community Values of Ohio, said in a statement to The Daily Citizen. “For decades, men and women have been praying outside this clinic and reaching out to women. By God’s grace, our prayers have been answered!”

Religion News Service Demands Christians Surrender to LGBT Agenda.
Religion News Service Demands Christians Surrender to LGBT Agenda. Literally.
By: Glenn Stanton

For a movement that began under a “live and let live” philosophy, the LGBT folks certainly have devolved into one that demands everyone do precisely as they say. We see yet another example of this absolutism coming from, if you can believe it, the folks over at the Religion News Service (RNS). They are saying to faithful Catholics and evangelicals, that literally, “[i]t’s time to surrender” and submit to the demands of the fullness of the queer agenda. RNS takes it a step further even, warning that “it may well be past time, in fact, to negotiate good terms for their surrender.” As such, those leading the gay cause “may well simply crush religious conservatives” for good reason, they explain. The reason? Because, “[r]ather than negotiating compromises with the gay community, religious conservatives fought on to the bitter end.”

The RNS reports it didn’t have to be this way. Faithful Christians could have followed another example. “The Mormons showed the way by secretly sitting down,” they explain, “with state legislators and gay activists to work out a compromise that became the law in Utah.”
