Team,

The Supreme Court has signaled the direction it may be about to take. Now the rest is up to us.

The Court recently heard new oral arguments in Louisiana v. Callais , and questions from the bench suggest that the far-right majority may dismantle Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, which protects against racially discriminatory redistricting.

According to a new analysis from Fair Fight Action and the Black Voters Matter Fund, if the Court strikes down Section 2, Republicans could gain 19 new safe U.S. House seats. It would gut representation for Black and Brown Americans and be enough to lock in one-party control of the House for a generation.

But we have a path forward.

1. With this team’s grassroots support, we are conducting a massive communications and mobilization effort pushing the Court to uphold the Voting Rights Act.

2. But because a ruling could come by the beginning of next year, we’re already preparing for the whole South to be drawing new maps in early 2026.

3. We’ll fight for fair representation with mass mobilization at state capitols and federal buildings, strategic pressure campaigns, coordinated and strategic action with litigation groups, and state-level organizing.

4. And for the long haul, we’ll keep pushing Congress to investigate unfair maps, expose corruption, confront a Supreme Court that’s abandoned its duty to the Constitution, and pass reforms like the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which would restore federal voting protections and outlaw the extreme gerrymandering fueling this crisis.

This moment demands action, and we’re counting on this team’s support to power this work. Will you make a donation of $30 or any amount to help make sure we can respond to new threats to free and fair elections? [[link removed]]

The outcome of this case could mark the next chapter in the Court’s decade-long effort to erode the freedom to vote — and with it, the foundation of multiracial democracy itself.

Striking down Section 2 could allow state legislatures to erase many of the existing competitive or minority-opportunity congressional districts across the country.

In Alabama, both minority-opportunity districts could vanish, flipping the map from two Democratic seats to seven safely Republican ones. Mississippi’s only district where Black voters can elect a candidate of their choice could disappear entirely — in the Blackest state in America. Louisiana’s new minority district could be erased, and in Texas, already home to extreme gerrymanders, voters of color could see their representation slashed from 11 districts to just three.

But the South refuses to be silenced.

The Black Voters Matter Fund sent buses carrying hundreds of concerned community members from eight Southern states — some riding 20+ hours — to a rally at the Supreme Court on the morning of oral arguments. A partner organization confirmed this was their largest Court rally in recent memory. The energy was powerful, with multi-generational participation sending a clear message to the Court.

As our Southern States Director Amir Badat declared from the Supreme Court steps: "This fight began in 1619… Let the justices hear the sound of a people who will not go back."

No matter what the Supreme Court does, we will continue playing the long game for a democracy that honors all of our voices. And with your support, we will prevail. Please make a donation today. [[link removed]]
