As the shutdown drags on, the Speaker refuses to call back House Republicans to work with Democrats on reopening the government, protecting affordable healthcare, and paying federal workers.
And in the White House, as food assistance benefits are set to disappear in a few days, the president is choosing to focus on courting his billionaire friends to fund a multimillion dollar ballroom.
National Republicans are acting like cowards. It’s unconscionable.
It is painfully clear that they are unable to lead. It’s why while Republicans in Texas and other states gerrymander their congressional maps to protect their grip on power, California is voting in a few days to level the playing field.
If Prop 50 passes, thousands of new voters will be folded into CA-27. This is one of the most competitive seats in the nation, and we can’t afford to lose this seat in the fight to reclaim House control – especially as I’m already facing a Republican challenger with the backing of the GOP machine.
