On Tuesday, October 28, Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica, causing flooding and widespread destruction. The hurricane moved to Cuba on Wednesday, October 29, and is now affecting Haiti and nearby countries.
“We express our deep regret at the tragic loss of life and destruction caused by Hurricane Melissa, and our solidarity with everyone who has been affected,” says Brice de la Vingne, head of the emergency unit at Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).
While we're not currently present in Jamaica, MSF is preparing to send emergency teams specializing in health care, supply logistics, and water and sanitation responses. We're also preparing to send supplies like medical kits and other essentials once airports reopen.
Support from our generous donor community helps us stay ready to respond to devastating emergencies around the world. Learn more about how MSF is monitoring the impact of Hurricane Melissa and preparing to support where we’re needed. |
