Recently, Trump fired Michele Beckwith, a U.S. attorney in Virginia, less
than six hours after she reminded federal agents that a court order
prohibited them from arresting people without probable cause. She was
doing her job — upholding the law — and he removed her immediately.
This isn’t an isolated incident. Just a week prior to this, Trump fired
another U.S. attorney in Virginia who refused to carry out his attacks on
his so-called political enemies, including James Comey and Letitia James.
Trump doesn’t want a justice system. He wants a loyalty system.
He’s using the courts to protect his friends, punish his enemies, and
silence anyone who stands in his way. And he’s sending a terrifying
message to prosecutors, judges, and public servants across the country:
your job is to serve him, not the law.
