We're thrilled to announce the launch of the Northern Virginia Bird Alliance's first annual Calendar Photo Contest!
This is your chance to showcase your stunning bird photography while supporting bird conservation right here in Northern Virginia.
Does your bird photo have what it takes to be a calendar star? 🌟
Starting TODAY, we're inviting you to submit your favorite bird photographs (plus insects and native plants!) taken in Northern Virginia. The top 13 photos will be featured in our beautiful 2026 calendar, and every vote helps fund our critical conservation work. This fall fundraiser is key to our work to protect birds in 2026!
How It Works
1. Submit your photos – Enter your best bird photographs from Northern Virginia ($10 per photo)
2. Rally your supporters – Share your photo page with friends, family, and fellow birders
3. Vote and donate – Each $1 donation equals 1 vote (minimum 5 votes per transaction)
4. Win recognition – Top 13 photos will be featured in our 2026 calendar!
5. All Participants – Will have a chance to be celebrated at our January Alliance Afternoon.
Amazing Prizes Await
Grand Prize (Cover Photo): The photo with the most votes wins:
* Cover feature on NVBA’s 2026 calendar plus two free calendars
* Free admission to NVBA’s events throughout 2026, with the exception of field trips taking place more than 50 miles away from our office in Reston, VA.
Top 12 Monthly Winners: Each receives:
* Featured placement in our calendar
* One free calendar
All Entrants: Receive honorable mention on our website and an invitation to our Photo Celebration at our January Alliance Afternoon!
Important Dates
* Photo Submissions: October 29, 5:00 PM ET – November 14, 8:00 PM ET
* Voting Period: October 29, 5:00 PM ET – November 14, 8:00 PM ET
* Winners Announced: November 15
* Calendar Pre-Orders: Available now through December 1
Photo Guidelines
We're looking for high-quality photographs of wild birds taken in northern Virginia, including:
* High resolution images (minimum 3300 x 2550 pixels at 300 dpi)
* Horizontal (landscape) format preferred
* Species diversity encouraged – from common backyard birds to rare visitors
* No watermarks or text overlays
* Minor edits are acceptable, but AI alterations are not permitted.

Every entry fee and every vote directly supports our mission to engage all Northern Virginia communities in enjoying, conserving, and restoring nature for the benefit of birds, other wildlife, and people.
