It’s Groundhog Day in Washington, as the Schumer Shutdown stretches on to Day 29.
While Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer brags that “every day gets better” for Democrats during the shutdown, struggling Americans certainly don’t share that sentiment.
Yet it appears these so-called liberal “leaders” don’t care.
Take it from House Minority Whip Katherine Clark, who admitted, “Of course there will be families that are going to suffer...but it is one of the few leverage times we have.”
Democrats are shamelessly confessing to holding the government and the American people hostage as leverage to obtain their radical demands. As a reminder, their $1.5 trillion wish list includes giving taxpayer-funded health care to illegal aliens, extending COVID-era Obamacare subsidies, and financing woke programs in foreign countries.
These absurd demands are nothing more than an attempt to appease the Democrat Party’s radical Left base.
So instead of providing the five Democrats needed to overcome the 60-vote threshold that is currently blocking the House-passed continuing resolution from coming to the Senate floor, Chuck Schumer is focused on scoring political points in hopes that his partisan games will save his career.Â
Meanwhile, the American people are paying the price.
In addition to the economic consequences I previously shared with you, the Schumer Shutdown is causing additional damage throughout the country. For example, roughly 13,000 air traffic controllers are working without pay, which is significantly impacting the nationwide staffing shortage. This unfortunate but avoidable reality continues to worsen air travel turmoil, with widespread flight delays and cancellations.
In addition, approximately 42 million Americans — including 1.4 million Georgians — will not receive their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits on November 1st if the Schumer Shutdown drags on. Democrats have long claimed they champion SNAP benefits, even going so far as to lie about Republicans’ commonsense reforms to improve the program. Now that these food assistance benefits are actually in jeopardy due to Chuck Schumer’s refusal to reopen the government, the Democrat Party is nowhere to be found.Â
Why? Because Washington Democrats view Americans’ pain as political gain.
Bottom line, the Schumer Shutdown has gone on long enough. We only need five more Senate Democrats to break the filibuster and bring the House-passed government funding bill to the Senate floor for a vote. Georgia’s Democrat Senators, Warnock and Ossoff, should be two of those votes, but they are not. Not yet.
The Peach State — and our great nation — deserve better than the Left’s harmful political games.
