Reuters: States sue over the Trump administration suspending food benefits during shutdown
Right now, more than 680,000 Marylanders, including 270,000 children, rely on food assistance to put meals on the table.
But because of the ongoing government shutdown, the Trump administration has signaled that these critical benefits could be delayed or even suspended.
That’s why, alongside other attorneys general and governors from 25 states and D.C., I’m suing the Trump administration to avert the lapse in food aid that would hurt millions of Americans.
Can you contribute to my reelection campaign before our end-of-month deadline to help me continue standing up for families, children, and seniors?

Parents could open their EBT accounts next month and find them empty. Seniors who depend on SNAP to stretch their fixed incomes might have to choose between groceries and medicine. And veterans who served our country could go hungry because of political games in Washington.
This is not a budgeting issue; it’s a moral one. Congress already set aside emergency funds to ensure that SNAP benefits continue, even in a shutdown. But the Trump administration is refusing to release those funds and has ordered states to “hold” their payments instead.
As Maryland’s Attorney General, I’m doing everything in my power to hold this administration accountable to make sure no family in our state goes without food because of politics.
I can’t do it without you. Will you join me in standing up for families today by contributing to my campaign before my end-of-month deadline?
