As the government shutdown continues into its 5th week, states are notifying recipients that food stamp benefits may be halted until the federal government reopens. While average Americans are struggling, Democrats in Congress are insisting on a permanent extension of the COVID-era Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies, which fund insurance plans that cover abortion and gender transition procedures, before they will even consider reopening the government. Your members of Congress need to hear from you!

Use this link to send a message to your congressional delegation telling them that you object to the extension of the COVID ACA subsidies, which fund abortion and gender transition procedures!

The Hyde Amendment, which prevents federal taxpayer funding of abortion, does not apply to the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. Obamacare was designed to bypass the Hyde Amendment back when it was passed in 2010. FRC's own research confirmed this in 2022, finding that 59% of Obamacare plans included coverage for elective abortions. Because Obamacare is a federal program, even if you live in a pro-life state, you are still helping to fund abortions for people in pro-abortion states through federal taxes.

Additionally, some states use Obamacare to cover costly and harmful gender transition procedures (GTPs). The largest insurance provider in the ACA marketplace, the Centene Corporation, publicly states that "gender-affirming procedures" are "medically necessary" and therefore covered by their insurance plans, despite the lack of evidence that has prevented the U.S. Food and Drug Administration from approving drugs for use in such procedures.

Abortion and gender transition procedures are not healthcare and should not continue to be funded through the COVID-era Obamacare subsidies, which are rightfully set to sunset at the end of the year. If Congress does vote to extend these subsidies, the extension must explicitly include the Hyde Amendment and similar protections that prevent taxpayer funding for gender transition procedures.

Send a message to your members of Congress now, encouraging them to stop funding abortions and gender transition procedures through the COVID Obamacare subsidies!
