Friend,
What’s happening right now isn’t some accident of politics. It’s a crisis
born from deliberate cruelty and cowardice.
The government is shut down because of a failure of Republican leadership.
Health insurance subsidies that millions rely on are expiring. Premiums
are skyrocketing. And in just days, over 40 million people – many of whom
are seniors, children, working families, and people with disabilities –
will lose access to food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition
   Assistance Program (SNAP).
And while families brace for hunger, the Trump regime is sitting on $5
billion in USDA emergency reserves that could be used today to fund SNAP.
They just refuse to do it.
That’s not fiscal restraint – it’s moral rot.
Meanwhile, Trump is parading across Asia trying to clean up the global
trade chaos he created (the first time a sitting president has EVER left
the country during a government shutdown), and Speaker Mike Johnson
continues to keep the House out on vacation. He’s refusing to bring
lawmakers back to the Capitol, even as millions face hunger, higher
premiums, and economic pain – all so he can delay the swearing in of
Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva, whose signature would be the last one needed
to force the release of the Epstein files.
Think about that: while families in this country can’t afford their
groceries or healthcare premiums, Republicans are more worried about
   keeping damning records sealed.
This is the GOP’s America – where billionaires get tax breaks and children
go hungry. Where corporate profits are protected, but health care
subsidies are left to expire. Where the Republicans who control the White
House and Congress shrug as families line up at food banks that are
   already stretched to their limits.
   Enough.

and reopen the government now. >>
For the first time since the Great Depression, the SNAP program – the
nation’s largest anti-hunger lifeline – is on the brink of collapse. The
USDA has already told states to hold off distributing November benefits
“until further notice.” That means millions of people could see their EBT
   cards stop working within days.
The Trump administration has the power and the funds to stop this crisis.
They and the Republicans in Congress could end it tomorrow. Instead, they
are holding our entire economy hostage to protect their billionaire donors
   and avoid political embarrassment.
This is what failed leadership looks like. And if we don’t speak out now,
they’ll keep getting away with it.

No family should go hungry because Republicans refuse to lead. Not now.
   Not ever.
   Thank you for your advocacy,
   Zach VanHouten
