Families and seniors across Illinois are being left in the lurch yet again.

Because of the ongoing Republican-led government shutdown, the federal government has warned states that SNAP benefits could end as soon as November 1st. That means millions of families may lose access to the very program that helps them keep food on the table.

This crisis is entirely avoidable. Republicans are refusing to negotiate with Democrats to remove their deep cuts to SNAP and other vital public programs. They’re holding the government — and millions of working families — hostage to push their cruel political agenda.

I refuse to accept this.

That’s why I joined 212 of my Democratic colleagues in urging the USDA to use contingency reserve dollars to continue funding SNAP. And STILL, with a solution on the table, Republicans rejected this measure. No one — no child, no parent, no senior — should go hungry because of the far-right’s political games.

This is not about politics. It’s about basic human decency. And I’ll keep fighting every day until our government reflects that. Join me. ([link removed])
