Boebert and Trump are indeed MAGA, but it’s not America they are putting first.
John,
Lauren Boebert and Donald Trump just handed Argentina a massive gift: a bailout to the tune of $20 billion in financial assistance, weeks before their elections to prop up far-right president Javier Milei, who has styled himself as a mini-Trump.
You may not know Milei, but he is the guy who gifted Elon Musk a chainsaw earlier this year as a symbol of their shared interest in “slashing government spending” [read: screwing over working people]. This is all because the billionaire Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s billionaire buddy Rob Citrone is over-leveraged in Argentina assets.
But what Trump did for Argentina was actually a nasty three-part betrayal of Colorado farmers, cattle ranchers, and American taxpayers:
Trump’s Treasury Department wrote Argentina a blank check for $20 billion to stabilize their currency
Argentina, looking to support their own farmers, immediately sold massive amounts of soybeans to China at favorable prices, since Trump’s trade war has made American soybeans more expensive and less desirable abroad
Trump then announced that the U.S. would be allowing 4x the import of Argentinian beef with lower tariffs — a move that will devastate American cattle ranchers
The betrayal is so galling, and so deep, that even staunch Trump ally Marjorie Taylor Greene has come out and publicly called it a “punch in the gut” to American cattle ranchers and the so-called “America First” movement.
There is not a single constituency in my district, the place where I grew up, the land that inspired my first love of nature, conservation, the place I call home … that supports what Trump is doing here.
Boebert and MAGA are showing rural Americans what they truly care about: wealthy donors, billionaires, and themselves. Not the people.
But this isn’t a joke. It isn’t a lost cause. We are not pandering to the American farmer with false promises of economic riches and prosperity. We are talking cold, hard realities.
