As the federal government shutdown continues, thousands of Marylanders are facing real financial hardship. The shutdown is forcing workers to go without paychecks, and for too many, that means worrying about how to cover rent, groceries, or basic expenses.

WMAR 2 News Baltimore: Maryland Comptroller defers tax payments for federal workers impacted by shutdown

To help, the Comptroller’s office launched new tax relief measures for federal workers, including a deferral of state tax payment plans for anyone affected by the shutdown.

This means no one will face penalties or collections while the federal government remains closed, and workers will have up to 60 days after the shutdown ends to get back on their feet.

If you or someone you know is a federal worker impacted by the shutdown, you can sign up for payment plan deferment by emailing [email protected] with your full name, address, and other information. Please follow the instructions on our resource page.
